La Frontera y Nuevo México: The Border and New Mexico

http://opendata.unm.edu/Event/unmevents/36ed52f7-71dd-4a89-a6c2-ea461a51b07f

The cultural ramifications of national borders have become an increasingly important topic in anthropology, mirroring the global importance of the topic in general.  Because New Mexico is on the U.S.-Mexico border, the politics of that border are deeply important to the state and its people.  The recent presidential election also made the border and immigration controversial issues.

In light of recent events and the long and complicated history of the U.S.-Mexican border, La Frontera examines border and immigration policies and realities from an anthropological perspective through the use of images of the border, objects – personal and political – related to the border, and personal reflections from people and organizations who are most directly impacted by the border and immigration policy.  We ask what the border means to different people, and what the border means to you.

La Frontera y Nuevo Mexico: The border and New Mexico is an anthropological investigation of the U.S. Mexican border in two parts, the first section currently on exhibition in the Maxwell is an introduction to the topic and the second section will be installed by January 31 in the Hibben Center, just south of the Maxwell. La Frontera is the latest in the Current Issues in Anthropology series of exhibitions. Presenting news media, historic documents, personal reflections and objects, the series presents thought provoking topics and requests feedback from Museum visitors.   La Frontera will be on display until September 2017.

No Hate, No Fear: Responses to the Presidential Ban on Refugees and Immigrants

http://opendata.unm.edu/Event/unmevents/b2fa4c9f-c052-4fe0-94be-7ebe182d0bcb

The title of this small but important exhibition is taken from a common refrain chanted at recent protests happening around the country: “No Hate, No Fear, immigrants (or “refugees”) are welcome here!”  The protests were a response to the executive ban of immigrants and refugees from Iraq, Syria, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen. The protests reflect both a long history of Americans resisting government decisions they find objectionable (starting with the Boston Tea Party of 1773), and the power of social media to unite groups with a common purpose.

In this exhibition, which features both musical instruments from the countries singled out in the original ban and coverage of the protests at airports against the ban, we encourage visitors to contemplate the implications of the ban, as it continues to be debated, litigated, and revised.

Good Clinical Practice FDA Training

http://opendata.unm.edu/Event/unmevents/bc915120-ae9d-4443-85c5-8e2032afd138

NIH policy requires all personnel involved in the conduct, oversight or management of clinical trials to comply with Good Clinical Practice (GCP).

To be compliant with new NIH policy, investigators and staff need to show records of successful completion of CGP training, and refresher training at least every three years. Note that GCP training is different from the required training for protections of human subjects that all our active investigators and staff already have completed.

The 13 principles of GCP help assure the safety, integrity and quality of clinical trials. GCP provides a standard for ensuring clinical trial compliance, implementation, data collection, monitoring and reporting. This quality and ethical standard also outlines the responsibilities of Institutional Review Boards, investigators, sponsors and monitors.

Compliance with GCP maintains that the rights, safety and well-being of human subjects are protected; that clinical trials are conducted in accordance with approved plans with rigor and integrity; and that data derived from clinical trials are reliable.

Maintain Compliance with On-Campus Training

The UNM Clinical & Translational Science Center is here to help with this new training requirement. An informative and engaging curriculum has already been created and is accessible to all HSC faculty and staff. Starting in January, all investigators and staff will have access to GCP online modules and regulatory expertise, and interactive face-to-face training sessions with an instructor.

To accommodate schedules, the training has been condensed to four two-hour sessions (named A, B, C and D). These sessions will meet the requirements of the new NIH policy.* Each session will be held every Friday 1:30-3:30 p.m. Upon successful completion of the online modules and all four sessions, a certificate will be provided, which is valid for three years.

The UNM Clinical & Translational Science Center is here to help with this new training requirement. An informative and engaging curriculum has already been created and is accessible to all HSC faculty and staff.

University of New Mexico Art Museum, in partnership with CENTER, presents a lecture with photo historian, curator and author Deborah Willis.

Images, whether artistic, documentary, or anthropological, are forever fixed in the popular imagination through photography. From the medium’s beginning, race and gender have shaped and controlled the reception of photographic portraits, both politically and aesthetically. Photographers from the 19th to today respond to their own lives and their communities in similar ways. They comment on politics, culture, family, community, and history from internal and external points of view.  This talk focuses on the abilities the photograph, the Internet and digital media provide us about the circulation of movement/activist imagery. This lecture will include works by image makers and change makers who are actively involved in changing the course of contemporary visual culture.

Deborah Willis, PhD, is University Professor and Chair of the Department of Photography & Imaging at New York University/Tisch and has an affiliated appointment in Africana Studies. Professor Willis was a 2014 Richard D. Cohen Fellow of African and African American Art History at the Hutchins Center, Harvard University, a 2005 Guggenheim Fellow and Fletcher Fellow, and a 2000 MacArthur Fellow. Professor Willis has received the NAACP Image Award in 2014 for her co-authored book  “Envisioning Emancipation.”   Other notable projects include “Framing Beauty: Intimate Moments,“ “Reflections in Black: A History of Black Photographers – 1840 to the Present;”  “Posing Beauty: African American Images from the 1890s to the Present;” “Michelle Obama: The First Lady in Photographs,” a NAACP Image Award Literature Winner, and “Black Venus 2010: They Called Her ‘Hottentot.’”

Good Clinical Practice FDA Training

http://opendata.unm.edu/Event/unmevents/af2ecd23-7367-47d5-ba97-d2ae31576914

Good Clinical Practice FDA Training

http://opendata.unm.edu/Event/unmevents/678a835a-f397-4644-91c8-04fd57ade5be

Upon successful completion of the online modules and all four sessions, a certificate will be provided, which is valid for three years.

http://opendata.unm.edu/Event/unmevents/9016f5f9-8840-400f-9da6-0cc8451ee566

The Enrollment Cancellation deadline is a date set by UNM, and prescribed by state statute, by which a student must make a financial commitment by accepting financial responsibility for current term charges and paying their entire prior semester balance or be dropped from their current term courses.\nStudents can view their Enrollment Cancellation Balance over LoboWeb, in the Registration & Records menu. Payment of this balance must be received by the Cashier Department by 5:00 PM on the stated deadline. Payment options are available. Failure to make the required payment will result in the student being dropped from all their current semester courses.\nPlease note that students registering after the Enrollment Cancellation deadline who do not drop by published refund deadline will be responsible for payment of all tuition and fees. Student Accounting generates bursar account billing statements, answers account inquiries from students, staff and retirees, and processes financial aid refunds.\n\n\n

Good Clinical Practice FDA Training

http://opendata.unm.edu/Event/unmevents/63c59c15-019e-4e9c-b5c8-157ee7291481

Good Clinical Practice FDA Training

http://opendata.unm.edu/Event/unmevents/b31d2d77-c783-4b1f-9513-ffe4aec22a10

Upon successful completion of the online modules and all four sessions, a certificate will be provided, which is valid for three years.

http://opendata.unm.edu/Event/unmevents/6767ad6e-6d7c-4b94-a674-a4295235d46a

The Mentoring Institute at UNM is pleased to announce its 10th Annual Mentoring Conference, A Decade of Cultivating an Inclusive Mentoring Community: Developmental Networks for Innovation, Achievement, and Transformation. This five-day event will take place Monday, October 23, 2017 through Friday, October 27, 2017 at the Student Union Building on UNM's main campus in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The Mentoring Institute's Annual Mentoring Conference features 12 keynote, plenary, and round table sessions, 3 pre-conference workshops (master sessions), 1 poster session, and over 300 individual/panel presentations. We aim to host a broad constituency, including divisions of higher education, academic researchers, educators, community leaders, administrators, non-profit partners, government agencies, and other professionals.

Who Attends the Conference?

The 2016 Mentoring conference attracted more than 600 mentoring researchers and practitioners. 86% of attendees were faculty, staff or students from higher education. The remaining 14% were professionals and practitioners from health care, government, non-profit, and business organizations.

Hanging of the Greens is UNM's oldest student tradition and is one of the largest luminaria displays in the area consisting of 14,000 luminarias. The event is planned and run by Mortar Board, UNM's premier senior honor society.

The event will begin at 5:45 p.m. at the UNM Bookstore. From there, the group will carol across campus to University House to present the President with a wreath. The event will conclude with a reception at Hodgin Hall from 6:30–8:00 p.m.

The community is invited and attendees are asked to bring an unwrapped children's book to place under the tree at Hodgin Hall. Books will be donated to UNM Children's Hospital.

Qualitative Research Methods

http://opendata.unm.edu/Event/unmevents/eb9903e3-f3af-45e9-b52c-0080912b1a24

Qualitative research data collection methods are time consuming, therefore data is usually collected from a smaller sample than would be the case for quantitative approaches - therefore this makes qualitative research more expensive.

The benefits of the qualitative approach is that the information is richer and has a deeper insight into the phenomenon under study.
