Exhibition: Gun Violence, a Brief Cultural History

http://opendata.unm.edu/Event/unmevents/b4aecc7f-05bf-4204-ba1f-6ec0fc8bbf9c

Mass shootings involving guns have become part of American culture. While mass murders have happened throughout recorded history, changing civilian gun technology has made the murders more deadly.

The proposed responses to increasingly deadly gun violence have polarized our society. If we are ever to achieve a unified response to the problem, it may help to understand that the culture of guns has varied through time, including in this country, and around the world. Since that is the case, perhaps the culture of guns can continue to vary here—in the sense that Americans, now so divided, can come to a consensus about reducing gun violence.

The Maxwell Museum is open Tuesday - Saturday, 10am - 4pm

CTSC Course - Basic Practical Team Science

http://opendata.unm.edu/Event/unmevents/d19451df-3f9d-403f-be9e-591bcfaeb728

The research is clear: Scientists create more knowledge when they collaborate with colleagues outside their own fields. Participants in this fast-paced course will learn a variety of approaches to understanding and engaging in team science. We’ll engage in small group activities to generate answers to the individualized questions that lie at the heart of group dynamics: What are the factors I should consider when approaching a collaborative project? What can I do to ensure that the adversarial scientific collaboration between me and my colleagues is productive, harmonious and safe? How do I find and approach a collaborator who I can trust?

By the end of the course, participants will be able to describe the varieties of team science, compare and contract successful and less-successful project practices, and identify methods for creating strong partnerships.

Basic Practical Team Science

http://opendata.unm.edu/Event/unmevents/48360949-0357-4312-b9e3-6dedd529d538

The research is clear: Scientists create more knowledge when they collaborate with colleagues outside their own fields. Despite broad awareness of the importance of team science, this multi-faceted concept is often simplified in practice: one doesn’t have to look far to find evidence of projects that failed because of a lack of collaboration.

Participants in this fast-paced course will learn a variety of approaches to understanding and engaging in team science. We’ll engage in small group activities to generate answers to the individualized questions that lie at the heart of group dynamics: What are the factors I should consider when approaching a collaborative project? What can I do to ensure that the adversarial scientific collaboration between me and my colleagues is productive, harmonious, and safe? How do I find and approach a collaborator who I can trust?

By the end of the course, participants will be able to describe the varieties of team science, compare and contract successful and less-successful project practices, and identify methods for creating strong partnerships.

Basic Practical Team Science

http://opendata.unm.edu/Event/unmevents/04434d64-6ef0-41c3-a15e-ce21409369b3

Basic Practical Team Science

http://opendata.unm.edu/Event/unmevents/7383d3d0-2431-46c4-a644-ddd9d1c13169

Basic Practical Team Science

http://opendata.unm.edu/Event/unmevents/b6cb19e9-6612-4814-b1d6-e48a28873c84
